Chinese
Medicine
Chinese medicine is a system of diagnosis and treatment
approaches that has evolved over the last 3000 years or so. This approach is
unique. It is based on the holistic concept of the universe outlined in the
spiritual insights and beliefs of Daoism and it has resulted in a highly
sophisticated set of practices designed to maintain a healthy equilibrium in all
aspects of our lives. These practices include acupuncture, herbal remedies,
diet, meditation and qigong exercises (both active and static forms)
Unlike western approaches to medicine which tend to
emphasise a reductionist model which sees the body in terms of the specificity
of its constituent parts, the Chinese approach has evolved out of the Daoist
view which sees everything in the universe as interdependent and mutually
interactive. Everything is essentially seen as in dynamic balance and the
maintenance of equilibrium is the key to the stability of everything, from the
majesty of the cosmos down to the complexity of the individual human body.
Chinese medical diagnosis places the signs and symptoms
that a patient presents with into an interdependent tapestry where physical
symptoms, emotional responses and spiritual beliefs are set alongside social and
environmental factors. The resulting picture is one of an energetic dance where
potential and actual causes of imbalance and disequilibrium are identified. The
resultant treatments – whether they be acupuncture, herbs, diet, qigong or any
combination of these, will seek to re-establish harmony and equilibrium for each
individual within his or her unique environment.
The principles of Chinese medicine do not require to await
the arrival of an illness. Understanding the principles can help anyone maintain
a healthy and balanced lifestyle where illness is avoided, not treated.
The Kun Chen clinic will offer access to advice and
treatment across all the modalities of Chinese medicine and regular workshops
and seminars are available to further deepen the understanding of this subtle
let endlessly powerful system |
